Nothing really changes….

I’m feeling like I have a dual personality at the moment. I am reading Victorian literature alongside Medieval literature. What is most interesting to me are the enduring themes – the ways in which the 19th century authors reflect similar themes and issues to the medieval scribes. Piers Plowman by William Langland is the fare for this week – featuring middle earth (sound familiar to anyone?), discussion of works v grace alone, parodies of those in authority, particularly church and political authorities, personifications of truth, reason, free will, wit, do-well, do-bet, do-best, scripture, clergy, among others.
