Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence. Abigail Adams (1744 – 1818)
That is what learning is. You suddenly understand something you’ve understood all your life, but in a new way. Doris Lessing
Learning is not compulsory… neither is survival. W. Edwards Deming (1900-93)
Learning is not merely about the content, or the methods by which infomation or skills are communicated. An attitude of constant and continuous learning is tempers by Deming’s wry observation that one’s survival in contemporary survival is improved by an openness to learning new skills, challenging ones preconceived notions and receiving and then testing new points of view. Doris Lessing’s observation reflects this openness of mind.
