Some folks you need to meet: The 12 days of blogging Christmas

by Anna Blanch on December 9, 2009

Christmas BadgeFollowing L.L’s lead in freely sharing and promoting the work of others in her post Seedlings in Stone: 12 Days of Self-Promotion, Sorta and appropriate considering some of the wonderful bloggers over at HighCallingBlogs and their 12 Days of Community project I thought I’d join in. Sharing the work of others is one of the founding principles of Goannatree as it is of all good scholarship – it is about a conversation and entering into that conversation.

If you’ve been reading Goannatree for any length of time you know that I review the writing, whether that be blogs or articles, of others on a pretty regular basis. I see this in part as a way of making myself familiar with the terrain of the blogging world and the conversations going on. I see blogging, like scholarship, as a dialogic activity rather than a monologic one. We need to listen and observe as well as talk.

Yesterday I reposted first post in the feature series about Highcallingblogs network in preparation for these 12 days of community posts! 12 is a good place to start in spotlighting the people behind the blogs that make up the Highcalling network.

There are times where I feel like I am walking a fine line between the scholarly community and the broader christian blogging community. Highcalling gives me the opportunity to be involved with those blogging within their professional as well as personal contexts. I wrote about Goannatree’s purpose a while back if you’d like a little better idea of where I am coming from.

This walking in that space between universes kind of reminds of Robert Frost…

My object in living is to unite
My avocation and my vocation
As my two eyes make me one in sight.
Only where love and need are one,
And the work is play for moral stakes,
Is the deed every really done
For heaven and the future’s sake

“Two Tramps in Mud Time” (Lines 66-72)
