It’s Saturday, so it’s time for another Overland to Oz planning post. Overland to Oz is still mulling around my head as I begin to plan, draw upon contacts and think about the broader purposes and inclination for this trip. I’ve been thinking about education & encouragement & community. Some things are beginning to to shape in my head as I think outside the box of a direct route between Amsterdam and Warsaw. I posed a couple of questions on the Goannatree facebook page:
1) Warsaw or Krakow
2)Vienna or Prague
Krakow won in an absolute landslide. I even got this great tweet from @zografispaula explaining why she thought I should got to Krakow.
And when my Polish friends agreed, that was enough for me. The jury’s still out on the second question, though Vienna is a strong contender. At the moment, these maps have Prague as the route (cause i like to keep everyone on their toes). Thoughts? opinions?
The next stage is Krakow to Budapest. This is an overnight train via Bratislava, Slovakia. I’ll then travel across to Iasi, Romania. The next stage is about getting to Moscow, and the way to do that is via Moldova.
So, the itinerary looks a little something like this, in broadstrokes:
Here’s a picture of this route in full. Like all things so far this route is tentative and a work in progress. But i’m feeling like it has a focus and a purpose now, not just a hop and a skip across western Europe.
Things may change again, and are likely to!
Thoughts? Weird piece of advice you want to give me?
